Years ago when Dale Robinson of Enjoyment Records approached us to put MTNZ on wax all the way in the UK we did it because this amazing human being made it so risk free to us. Classic No-Brainer. From that chance encounter and opportunity so many people then joined our journey.
When we hammered out visions and ideas for the vinyl release - Dale mentioned the idea of adding bonus // vinyl specific features. He mentioned a never before released track - we upped it and decided to make two.
One of which is the demo quality full band song - Crooks and Cardinal Youth. A song that was an exploration of genre for us. I lived in a home filled with blues rock // indie local musicians, seen as the songwriting oddball, I wanted to pay homage to them with this song.
the second - an acoustic only, two guitar finger style song. Lions is at its core a fast paced, emotional machine that is driven by sporadic drums and encouraged by my love of fast shifting instrumentation BUT my intro as a guitar player started at the beginning of college listening to finger stylist guitar players and being wowed by the ambient emotion and extremely intimate musical execution. Cleveland, TN was our attempt to contribute.
We've always kept these songs close to the chest because we wanted to stay true to the idea Dale mentioned - which is exclusivity to the vinyl. Now, things have changed. Enjoyment is now defunct, sadly. Riff Castle and Brittle Bones have stepped into repress this timepiece of our emergence into musical space as Lions.
* All of our music (EXCEPT THIS) has always been free and has been vigorously shared and downloaded BUT for the first time we are making this cost money to purchase. Not because the quality of songs surpasses any of our other catalog but to HONOR the people that have made this record physically available worldwide.
with that * -- both of these songs are on every variant of MTNZ (physically on vinyl) and were the brain child of Dale and Lions staring down a cool opportunity. When you purchase the vinyl from either Brittle Bones Records of Riff Castle
brittlebonesrecords (at) bandcamp (dot) com
riffcastlerecords (at) bigcartel (dot) com
you will receive these songs digitally anyway - SO, that should be how you obtain these tracks BUT BUT BUT to everyone else who has loved MTNZ or doesn't care for vinyl listening or collecting then these songs are finally available to all.
One of the best tracks in this album, the melody, rhythm, the arrangement, all perfectly combined elements to this song. It reminds me of the good old days when I first saw this band on the internet. I miss you guys. Hope you release a new comeback album soon. Dpsht
